Brenna Burns Yu is an artist, illustrator, and writer. She is excited about her first picture book,  "Hazel and Twig: The Birthday Fortune," forthcoming from Candlewick Press. Brenna won the 2014 New Voices in Children's Literature: Tassy Walden Award for her portfolio and for the illustrated picture book dummy "Sophie's Dol: A Birthday Tale," which was an early draft of "Hazel and Twig: The Birthday Fortune." Brenna graduated with an MFA from the Fiber department of Cranbrook Academy of Art in 2004. Textiles, patterns, and surface design still inspire many of her drawings. Her three children are another great source! Some of the children's authors and illustrators she most admires include William Steig, Nancy Eckholm Burkert, Arnold Lobel, James Marshall, Beatrix Potter, Julie Morstad, and Christa Unzner, to name just a few...She has been a member of SCBWI since 2012. She lives with her family in a pink house in Connecticut.
